Where is this ship sailing (from the fondant)?
How, where does it sail, then on Damir's cake, of course! I’ll show you how I made it, maybe serve someone as an idea.
Preparation steps
- I panicked a bit when I got a picture of this, sorry, Damir, ugly ship, so how do I reproduce it on a cake ?? Of course I could have it printed on edible paper, but that’s not it, it was a bigger challenge for me to make it from fondant.
- I printed out the obtained photo. I trimmed all the excess from the picture, so that only the contour of the ship remained.
- Lightly holding the template, I circled the thumbnail a bit with my scalpel.
- I removed the template, cut off the excess fondant.
- I painted the boat using edible colors, which I use to paint fondant.
- The boat must be dried, preferably overnight.
- I laid a paper boat on the cake, to see at what width I would cut a piece of cake that I would place as a floor on the cake, to get a nice background for the contour of the cake.
- I glued parts of the cake with cream with which I will spread the whole cake before applying the fondant. I fixed the layers by piercing two wide straws through both layers of the cake.
- I smeared the cake with cream, and put it in the fridge until it cooled.
- I rolled out the fondant and covered the cake. I left the top of the cake smooth and the bottom, the sea, rippled. I applied a few shades of blue and mother-of-pearl white to the "sea" with a sponge.
- I fastened the ship, made yellow stars across the “sky”.
- Another anchor and the sailor's name, and the ship is ready to sail.
