Turkish savory biscuits

Need something tasty and a bit unusual to snack on with close and dear people? Then be sure to try these Turkish salty biscuits (tur. Tuzlu kurabiye) with simple ingredients but a rich Oriental flavor. The biscuits are crispy, melt in your mouth, bite-sized, enriched with sesame seeds and black cumin, and are the perfect accompaniment to your favorite hot or cold drink.

Preparation steps

  • Put all the liquid ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir with a mixer for a few minutes just enough to combine all the ingredients.
  • Mix most of the flour, baking powder, salt and seeds and add to the mixture of liquid ingredients. Stir until combined, then continue to add the rest of the flour until you get a dough that doesn’t stick to your fingers, is medium-hard and suitable for shaping.
  • Separate pieces the size of half a walnut from the dough and shape into balls. Arrange with a small space in a baking tray covered with baking paper. Coat with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds, black cumin and poppy seeds.
  • Bake the biscuits in an oven preheated to 170 ° C until nicely browned, about 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely and enjoy. Afiyet olsun!
  • Biscuits are traditionally made in the shape of balls, but if you find it tedious or you don't have time, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5 mm and cut it into squares or desired shapes, and here's a great cracker! Just pay attention to the baking time ...

Serving

These cookies are best eaten with some black tea (Turkish, Arabic, Indian ...) but I'm sure they go well with cold drinks. This is an original and traditional Turkish recipe that definitely includes black cumin seeds (turkey), an incredibly healthy and aromatic plant ... You may find it hard to buy, so you can definitely use any seeds you like. ..) Either way, the cookies are delicious and crunchy, so it’s almost impossible to eat just one!
