Turkish pretzel or simit
I gladly went on this adventure, because I love these pretzels so much.
Preparation steps
- In a bowl, mix the flour with the yeast, sugar and salt. Make a hole in the middle of the flour and add the oil, egg and butter. Knead a fine elastic dough (add more water as needed). Cover the dough and let it double.
- Divide the dough into two circles, mix and let it rest for another five minutes. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, not too thin, but medium, then cut the strips. Roll each strip and connect it in a circle. Do the same with the other half of the dough.
- The Turks originally use black grape jam, and you can replace it with pomegranate jam if you wish. This gives it a special taste and color. So whisk the jam with water and immerse each pretzel. Then add sesame seeds on both sides. .
- If you still do not want this original version with jam, you simply whisk the egg yolk with a little milk, then immerse the pretzels. Arrange the pretzels in a tray with back-paper and bake in a preheated oven at 180c. 15-20min until it turns yellow.
