TORTILLA MEXICANA - dough recipe
motivated by love for Mexican cuisine as well as the high prices of purchased tortillas - I decided to experiment a bit and came up with a very satisfying recipe for homemade tortillas! enjoy simple and delicious snacks! :)
Preparation steps
- 1. In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients (flour, salt, powder) and add milk and oil. mix well until you get a sticky dough. ** now is the ideal time to add spices if you want!
- 2. Take the dough out of the bowl and knead it on a floured surface for 2-4 minutes. the dough must become elastic and soft! the dough is then placed back in the bowl to rest for 30 minutes - resting the dough makes it soft and pliable! cover the bowl with a damp cloth!
- 3. 30 min later take out the dough and divide it into 8 equal parts. shape the pieces into balls and return and back to the bowl where they will rest for another 10 min.
- take the balls out of the bowl, flour the work surface and start rolling the dough. one ball should give a tortilla 17 cm in diameter. the dough should be rolled out to 2-3 mm thick.
- while rolling the balls put a teflon pan (it is important that you have a non stick stick so that the tortillas do not stick together) to heat to the strongest. the pan must really be well heated! put the rolled tortillas in a pan and bake on both sides for about 1-2 minutes. turn them the other way when big bubbles start to form! tortillas should not be crispy but should remain soft so that you can easily shape them into the desired shape. dress them to your liking! Good apetite!
