Slavski kolac

This year I had the honor to make a celebration cake, and I got the recipe from my wonderful mother-in-law. The cake is delicious and easy to make, we baked it the night before the celebration and the next day it was soft and tasty.

Preparation steps

  • Separate 100ml of warm water from the total amount and grind 20gr of fresh yeast with a teaspoon of sugar and stir. Leave for about 10 minutes for the yeast to activate. Stir 5 teaspoons of sugar into the rest of the warm water. When the yeast has activated, add water and flour alternately and knead the dough. Cover it and leave for half an hour in a warm place to rise for 30-45 minutes.
  • Knead the dough and mix in 125g of room temperature margarine, cover and leave to rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  • Flour the base and separate 1/3 of the dough, stretch it into a rectangle and divide it into two parts. Roll each part separately and make a braid from both parts. Place the braid on the bottom of the pan in which you will bake the stake. Make 5 balls from the rest of the dough and place them next to the braid, up, right, left, down and the last one in the middle. Cover and leave to rise for 30-45 minutes.
  • Turn the oven to 180 degrees. For the coating, mix conscious water and sugar and spread over the cake. Bake for 35 minutes, then take it out of the oven and arrange the figurines, then put it back in the oven for another 15 minutes.
  • Figurines
  • Mix flour, thickener, salt and water, make a ball of dough and leave in plastic wrap for half an hour.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and make figurines as desired.
  • Glue the figurines to the cake by mixing 20 g of flour with 100 ml of water and coating the lower part of the figurine.
