Shakshuka

Shakshuka is a simple dish that we can prepare for breakfast, lunch or dinner, a bit exotic but with ingredients that we have at home at all times. Shakshuka has its roots in Tunisian, Lebanese, Algerian, Moroccan and Egyptian cuisine. This simple dish is usually prepared in a clay pot, in our case an ordinary frying pan will serve well. Eggs are sprinkled in a mixture of tomatoes, peppers, chili peppers, onions, garlic and spices, and bread or warm buns can be dipped in a delicious sauce.

Preparation steps

  • First, cut the tomatoes and peppers into cubes, onions into thin crescents, garlic as finely as possible.
  • Put sautéed onions and peppers in olive oil. When the onions and peppers have softened, we will add tomatoes and garlic and hot peppers to the pan. We will season everything with a little salt, pepper and cumin.
  • After 10 to 15 minutes, when the tomato sauce has reduced a bit, we will make room for the eggs and break them in the pan. We will reduce the temperature on the stove, we will cover the pan and the dish is ready after about ten minutes when the eggs are ready.
  • In the end, sprinkle everything with fresh parsley.

Serving

I served fresh bread with this, which we dipped in the sauce and egg yolks.
