Saint Sava pretzels
Tomorrow is St. Sava school holiday and great children's glory… When I was a child and lived in Banat, every year I was looking forward to that day and going to the village church… I spent my holidays with my grandparents in the village and these pretzels were part of the church celebration. The children recited and received sweets and pretzels like this. We have been preparing them for over a year, but these were special !!! Today I think I just hit it and my daughter tells me I’ve never made them better.
Preparation steps
- Put 2 teaspoons of sharp flour, a little sugar and a packet of yeast in warm milk and wait for 10 minutes for the yeast to rise.
- Mix flour with oil and salt and add yeast and knead dough that does not stick to hands, but must not be hard. Knead it well on a floured board for at least 5 minutes, adding flour if necessary. Cover the dough and leave on warm for 30 minutes to double the amount.
- Prepare a salty dressing. Mix with flour and slowly add cold water and mix so that there are no lumps. The density is like pancake batter.
- Tear off the sourdough or cut small balls with a knife and thin them into a long stick with your fingers. Roll up the pretzels and place on a greased baking sheet. Just lubricate a little with oil.
- Leave to soak for about 10 minutes while the oven heats up to 250 degrees.
- Before placing in the oven, coat the pretzels with beaten egg. Bake the pretzels until slightly yellow, remove and place the salty dressing on them and return for another 2-3 minutes to brown nicely, and let the topping dry.
- Enjoy their taste !!!
- Fasting version, no milk and eggs, only water and olive oil :)
- In the integral version you can put flour as you wish :)
- Fasting variant: sour water and coconut oil in the dough :)
Serving
Dear moms, make your children happy with these beautiful pretzels because they deserved it !!! I had 30 pretzels from this test. If that’s a lot for you, you cool them and freeze them. If necessary, take them out of the freezer, sprinkle with water and put them in a warm oven for a few minutes to warm up. It will be like freshly baked. Picture Salty dressing Sandra5
