Rice mucus for babies
I am bringing you a slightly adapted recipe by Jadranka Boban Pejić, from the book "For babies and children", which helped my little son a lot when he couldn't stand cow's milk and until we found an alternative. Also, rice mucus will help as a good alternative to milk when children have diarrhea because then the symptoms can get worse due to lactose. However, it is important to note that rice mucus is by no means a permanent and adequate solution for an infant’s diet, but it can certainly help when there is a hassle.
Preparation steps
- Put the rice and a piece of kombu seaweed to cook in the pot. Cover and let cook for about an hour and a half until the rice is cooked through. Add water if necessary.
- When the rice is cooked, remove the seaweed, add a couple of tablespoons of rice malt and, when slightly cooled, a teaspoon of linseed oil. Mix everything well with a stick mixer, strain through a strainer into a glass bottle. You will notice how the mucus turns into a pudding when cooled. So it’s a good idea to always add a little more liquid when cooking. Algae is put on because it contains many beneficial minerals. Malt is salted for better taste. Flaxseed oil is used for quality fatty acids. If the mixture is too thick, boil it with more water. Note that rice can have a "closing" effect, so give it in smaller amounts first.
