Leafy envelopes with Philadelphia cream cheese
Very generous and delicious cakes according to a German recipe.
Preparation steps
- Make eight squares of cheese of 50-60 g. Chop the parsley.
- Arrange sliced pancetta on a plate, pepper and sprinkle with parsley and wrap squares of cheese in them. If desired, pepper again and sprinkle with parsley.
- Roll out the puff pastry to a thickness of about 3 mm, cut out 8 squares, beat the egg whites with a fork and coat the edges of the dough.
- Place the cheese rolls in the middle of the dough. Fold the corners of the dough towards the middle and glue them with your fingers. Press the joined edges lightly with the tip of a fork.
- Coat the cakes with egg yolk, diluted with a tablespoon of water or milk.
- Preheat the oven to 230 ° C.
- Sprinkle the baking sheet with water or line with greaseproof paper, arrange the cakes at a distance of 4 cm and place the sheet on the middle rack of the oven.
- After 5 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 200 or 180 ° C and bake for another 20 minutes. Note: be brave to try to make the cakes like this (avoiding the steps listed!)
Serving
It will be more effective if you make smaller cakes, especially if you make them for guests. You can prepare them the day before and keep them in the fridge until baking. Tomato salad is best with these cakes.
