The recipe originates from the island of Korcula where the dessert is famous, it is more than 100 years old. In the original recipe, instead of baking powder, ammonium salt (hirschhornsalz) is used. While baking it smells ugly, but the taste replaces everything, and you don't even need ammonium salt if you have baking powder or baking soda.
