Jambalaya (Caribbean specialty)
My husband and I adore Star Trek, DS9 and whoever watches it knows that Benjamin Sisko adores JAMBALAYA. For a long time I didn't know what kind of dish it was and I thought that something was invented and didn't exist until I bought a newspaper once and when it did, look, Jambalaja really exists and it's not hard to make. It has become a part of our everyday kitchen and we all adore it.
Preparation steps
- Peel and chop the onion and garlic. Cut the sausages into rings and the ham into cubes. If you don’t want to or don’t like me this time, you can take the chicken meat cooked or raw and cut it into cubes, sauté, sprinkle generously with ground paprika and pepper and fry on all sides to get a nice color. Put it on a plate to the side.
- Wash, clean and cut the peppers into small cubes. Wash the tomatoes as well, if you want to remove the skin (I do not remove it) and cut into small cubes. Cook the rice in salted water.
- Rinse the onion and garlic in the heated oil until they become glassy, add the sausage and ham and stir briefly. Stir in peppers, peas, corn and tomatoes, then cover with soup or, if you don't have soup, you can add water, season and cook for 15 minutes.
- If you are not going to put sausage and ham then after 10 minutes add that roasted chicken and continue to cook for another 5 minutes. Drain the rice, add to the dish and stir for another 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serving
I also had boiled carrots from the soup, so towards the end I added it cut into cubes.
