Integral waffles
A slightly healthier variant than the classic ones. Part of the fat, ie butter, was replaced by (homemade) apple puree / apple sauce (applesauce), which did not affect the quality, both in taste and texture; crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside ... and of course irresistibly fragrant.
Preparation steps
- Mix the wet ingredients in one bowl; apple puree, milk, eggs, butter, honey and vanilla extract, and in another dry ingredients; wholemeal flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon / gingerbread spice. Combine both mixtures and mix with a wire until everything is well connected.
- Bake the waffles in the oven in the usual way. I grabbed the mixture with a ladle; only 5 waffles fall out, so double the mixture if necessary.
- Note -I used homemade apple puree that I make according to this recipe, with small changes in the form of spices and sweeteners, but in principle that's it. If you use apple puree that is unsweetened, and you want the waffles to be the appropriate sweetness, be sure to increase the amount of honey in the mixture. -As for adding spices, my apple puree already contained a certain amount of spice for the gingerbread, so I didn’t add any more. -For an even healthier variant, you can replace the butter with coconut oil.
Serving
Serve with your favorite spread or topping. In my picture with extra apple puree and a little chopped walnuts ... a real autumn treat.
