Huli huli / Polynesian barbecue
Huli huli grilled chicken one of the most famous Polynesian grilled dishes is very similar to teriyaki, in addition to chicken you can use other meats.
Preparation steps
- Make the marinade: In a deep bowl, place the soy sauce, ketchup, sugar, ginger, garlic / very finely chopped, red pepper / more or less hot to taste. Mix everything well. Take out 200ml of ready-made sauce for coating chicken on the grill. Put the prepared meat in the rest of the sauce. Stir well. Put in the fridge to marinate for at least 2 hours / it would be best overnight. When you are ready to grill the meat, first take it out for at least half an hour to stand at room temperature to be as soft as possible, if you put it immediately from the fridge on the hot grill, the meat will shrink and harden. Coat the grill / grill with a little oil, if you are doing this on a grill pan, also coat it with a little oil / kitchen paper. Reduce the heat to a medium heat and do the same with the grill. Put the meat on the grill with tongs and bake for 6 minutes. Turn / coat with sauce, continue baking for another 6 minutes. Turn / coat and bake for 3 minutes. Repeat with the other side. Remove the pieces of meat and coat them with the rest of the marinade.
Serving
Serve roasted meat with cooked vegetables, pasta salads, bread, etc.
