Gumpaste flower arrangement

Another flower arrangement. Making instructions. Of the new flowers, there are gazania (gumpaste) and broom blooms filler flowers, which are very quickly made from floral ribbon.

Preparation steps

  • For the base of the decoration I used a ball of styrofoam (celblocks) because currently the humidity in HK is usually over 90% every day, so my vases made of rubber do not dry properly, the flowers still dry OK because they are thinner. With styrofoam coated fondant, even in this climate, everything stays stable for a long time.
  • So for the base, make a bowl of white fondant, press a ball of stirrup inside and glue the leaves of green fondant on the side. Use a floral wire to drill holes in the stirrup ball into which you will later insert the flowers. It is better to drill the holes before you start assembling the flower arrangement because the gummy flowers are brittle when dry.

  • Lily and curly willow buds are here
  • Instructions for roses are here. Pink, yellow and white roses are needed for the arrangement in the picture
  • For black-eyed susans, do the same as for daisies except that there is only one row of petals, and the center is dark brown and the petals are yellow.
  • For gazania flowers, make a center of yellow gum, put it on a wire bent into a hook and let it dry. Roll out the white gummy, cut out the shape of a large daisy and then roll out the petals a little more to make them wider. Dry in a bowl so that it is in a bent shape, and when it has dried, then shade it with pink and brown, like this, in the picture one is shaded with brown powder and the other with liquid brown.
  • For the broom bloom filler (pale green small in the picture), wrap the top of a piece of thin floral wire bent in a hook with floral tape and fold it into a ball, press well to make it firmly joined. Repeat several times, then fasten everything in groups to pieces of thicker floss wire using florist tape.
  • Start making an arrangement from the edge to the middle, first insert the leaves on the edge, then daisies, black eyed susans and other flowers, at the top come lilies, alstroemeria, and gazania. Fill in the blanks with curly willow, broom bloom and the rest of the leaves, and the arrangement is done
