Game shepherd

Each region of Croatia also had its favorite "wild" inhabitants and dishes from them. Gorski kotar celebrated the down, and Slavonia, due to the wealth of game, the shepherd. These dishes are prepared on an open fire, but they are also delicious from the stove.

Preparation steps

  • In a saucepan, place the meat cut into smaller pieces, grated onion, bay leaf, lard, hot and sweet ground pepper, a pinch of salt, and enough water to cover the ingredients.
  • Cook gently until the meat is half tender.
  • Add the passata, wine, chopped garlic, and let it continue to cook until the meat is completely tender.

Serving

At the end of cooking, you can cook spoons of flour, diced potatoes and parsley in the shepherd's pie if desired.

Advice

Instead of near the end of cooking you can grate the potatoes and add it in the preparation of the dish along with the onion.
