Fritters in saffron syrup
Original name - Lgeimat, the recipe is from the United Arab Emirates. :) They are great !!
Preparation steps
- Syrup
- Put water in a small pot and add all the ingredients except the lemon juice. When it boils reduce the temperature and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Transfer to a cup and allow to cool.
- After 15-20 minutes, strain the syrup through a fine sieve [for tea or coffee], add lemon juice and stir. Set aside.
- Dough
- In a large bowl, mix the flour with the sugar, baking powder and salt.
- In a small bowl, mix the egg together with the yogurt and milk and then add to the flour while stirring gently with a fork. Never use an electric mixer. Mix the dough with a fork just enough to get a uniform mixture. Leave to rest for 10 minutes.
- Add oil to a deep frying pan and heat well. Take out the dough with a small spoon, the dough will be sticky, so carefully separate it from the spoon with your finger while lowering it into the hot oil. Just 30-40 seconds one side and then quickly turn them so that the other side is evenly baked. During baking, the fritters will swell and get a round shape.
- Place the baked fritters first on a paper towel to soak up the excess oil and immediately transfer to a serving plate.
- Pour the syrup over the fritters, then turn the fritters a little in the syrup to cover on all sides. Serve warm.
