Dutch donuts (oliebollen)
Dutch donuts (oliebollen) that are traditionally served at the transition from the Old to the New Year.
Preparation steps
- Sift flour and salt into a larger plastic bowl. Melt the germ and sugar in half the amount of milk and leave it warm. When it has risen, add it to the flour and mix from the middle with a mixer until you get a mixture without lumps. Add the egg and the rest of the milk. Continue mixing. Finally add the raisins, chopped apple and pieces of chopped orange or gember. Stir, cover the dish with plastic wrap and leave to rise in a warm place for at least half an hour or until it doubles in volume.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 180 degrees Celsius or a deeper baking dish. With two oiled spoons (or an oiled ice cream scoop) form balls of puff pastry and bake in oil until golden brown (about 6 minutes).
- Take them out on kitchen paper to drain the rest of the oil. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Pleasant !!!
Serving
Quantity enough for about 25 pieces. I sometimes add about 50 gr to the dough. ground walnuts. Delicious and different, a little Balkan twist :)))
