Delicious Turkish roses

I accidentally came across these really delicious and decorative cookies with a friend from Turkey ... And they immediately enchanted me! They call them “gül tatlısı” and make them for the holidays. Not long after, I got a prescription and went to work. And I got perfect and beautiful cookies that are welcome on any table for any occasion.

Preparation steps

  • Soften the margarine to room temperature. Use a standard 2 dl glass as a measuring cup. First make the syrup by boiling all the ingredients well over a high heat, then lower the temperature and let it simmer for a while longer.
  • For the dough, first whisk all the ingredients well except the flour. Stir in the baking powder just before adding the flour. Knead the flour as needed to get a soft and pliable dough. Leave it in the fridge for 15 minutes. Then divide it into 6 equal parts and roll out to a thickness of 3-4 mm. Turn the oven to 200 degrees.
  • Cut circles with a glass.
  • Then arrange 5 circles so that a third of one rests on the other.
  • Roll them in the direction in which you stacked them.
  • Cut the roll in half.
  • You will get two roses like this!
  • Arrange them in a larger tray so that there is space between each. Put one hazelnut in the middle of each. If you do not have a larger pan, you can bake twice. Place in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
  • Drizzle hot roses with hot syrup. First pour a few tablespoons of syrup on top of each, then pour it all over. Leave it overnight. In the meantime, you may need to pour the syrup around them a few more times on top, so that they are evenly soaked. Enjoy and enjoy! Afiyet olsun!

Serving

Serve the roses with a little of their syrup. They go well with some good tea (preferably Turkish). Almonds or quarters of walnut kernels are also a great choice for decorating. They are very tasty and decorative, and are a great detail on the table for any important occasion!
