Czech dumplings
I spent last weekend in the Czech Republic and got hooked on their kitchen again! Here’s one great breakfast or dessert!
Preparation steps
- Dough
- Mix yeast, salt and sugar into the flour and mix well
- Add egg, melted butter and lukewarm milk and mix with an electric mixer or cooker
- Finish the dough a little by hand and leave in a covered bowl on warm to rest
- Making dumplings
- After the dough rises by a third, lightly knead it and divide it into 16 equal balls
- Flatten each ball into a circle about 10cm in diameter and lightly moisten on one side
- Place a teaspoon of strawberry jam and one or two strawberries dipped in powdered sugar on the moistened side
- Close the dumpling and shape it a little with your palms into a ball and let it stand for 15-20 minutes in a warm place
- Cooking
- Boil a large pot of water in which you have put a little salt and a handful of sugar
- Put 3-4 dumplings in boiling water (depending on the size of the pot) and cook covered for about 10 minutes.
- Serve the dumplings warm
- If you need the dumplings for later, after about 15 minutes of rest, you can put them in the fridge, and before cooking, take them out again in a warm place to warm them up a bit.
- Cream sauce
- Pour the cream into a bowl, add the lemon zest and vanilla sugar and stir. Finally add the lemon juice and stir a little more.
- Leave in the refrigerator until serving
Serving
Serve warm dumplings with a little cream sauce.
