Czech dumplings

I spent last weekend in the Czech Republic and got hooked on their kitchen again! Here’s one great breakfast or dessert!

Preparation steps

  • Dough
  • Mix yeast, salt and sugar into the flour and mix well
  • Add egg, melted butter and lukewarm milk and mix with an electric mixer or cooker
  • Finish the dough a little by hand and leave in a covered bowl on warm to rest
  • Making dumplings
  • After the dough rises by a third, lightly knead it and divide it into 16 equal balls
  • Flatten each ball into a circle about 10cm in diameter and lightly moisten on one side
  • Place a teaspoon of strawberry jam and one or two strawberries dipped in powdered sugar on the moistened side
  • Close the dumpling and shape it a little with your palms into a ball and let it stand for 15-20 minutes in a warm place
  • Cooking
  • Boil a large pot of water in which you have put a little salt and a handful of sugar
  • Put 3-4 dumplings in boiling water (depending on the size of the pot) and cook covered for about 10 minutes.
  • Serve the dumplings warm
  • If you need the dumplings for later, after about 15 minutes of rest, you can put them in the fridge, and before cooking, take them out again in a warm place to warm them up a bit.
  • Cream sauce
  • Pour the cream into a bowl, add the lemon zest and vanilla sugar and stir. Finally add the lemon juice and stir a little more.
  • Leave in the refrigerator until serving

Serving

Serve warm dumplings with a little cream sauce.
