Preparation steps

  • The amount of vegetables depends on the dish in which you will bake the djuvec.
  • Oil the bottom of the bowl and place a peeled tomato cut into slices about 0.5 cm thick on it. Add as much salt as you would like and that you immediately want to eat vegetables. Sprinkle the rice in one thin layer on top. Sprinkle the chopped onion over the ribs, then put a layer of chopped peppers, a little hot pepper and add a little salt again.
  • Now, after this phase, you can put pieces of chicken (and you don't have to, it's delicious and without meat). Sometimes I put white meat and sometimes I cook the meat separately. If you are not going to put meat, then the next layer is a little onion again, then paprika and salt and finally again the tomato cut into rings. Sprinkle and salt.
  • Bake in the oven on high heat for about 1 hour (until golden brown). Don’t add water because vegetables have a lot of their own juice and that’s quite enough.
  • I also add mashed potatoes because djuvec is quite strong. If you put meat, then towards the end of baking you can take it out and arrange it on top to lightly brown it.
